Tutoring in the Wells
Maths and Science Tutoring By Kieran Best
About Me
I live in Tunbridge Wells and began tutoring 6 years ago when I started helping a family friend. Over the intervening time I have helped over 20 students across the west Kent area.
Most years I have mainly worked with GCSE Maths and Sciences students, but I have also worked with A-level Maths, Physics and Chemistry students and assisted several children in preparing to sit their Kent 11+ Test.
I have worked long-term with students from comprehensive, grammar and private schools and a variety of backgrounds and abilities.

Credentials

I attended The Skinners' School in Tunbridge Wells from Year 7, and gained A-levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry. In 2018, I completed a MPhys in Physics with Astronomy and a MSc in Theoretical Physics in 2023.
Please note: I am not a qualified teacher, however I have previously worked in a secondary school environment, both in a paid and voluntary capacity, assisting ages 11-18.
An up to date DBS certificate is available upon request.
Services
Information
Sessions are usually 1 hour long and once a week as standard (excluding individual topic revision sessions, which can be requested as and when needed, in advance.)
Variations are available upon request, I am willing to do 1.5 and 2 hour sessions weekly, 1 hour fortnightly, or some combination.
All sessions can be conducted online via Zoom, or I offer travel to provide in-person tutoring to locations in and around Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks and Crowborough.
In addition, for GCSE and A-level students, I can provide model answers with explanations to past papers. I usually aim to distribute these for the Easter break, to conincide with revision. This service is included in the respective price.
Please note, the prices listed below are for online sessions only. For in-person meetings there will be an additional flat charge of £2 - £10 depending on distance to cover travel expenses.
Disclaimer
I try to be flexible to allow for adjustments to sessions. I usually do not charge for an occasional cancellation (such as due to unforseen circumstances) or a minor late show, except in circumstances which cause me significant inconvenience, such as considerable travel time on my part. Regular cancellations of sessions will require full payment for the session time(s) booked.
I request that I am informed of any changes to a regular schedule or requests for an on-the-day longer session, at the earliest opportunity. I will endeavour to inform you at the earliest opportunity if I need to cancel or shorten a session due to unforeseen circumstances, or if I am running late. In the event my late arrival causes an inconvenience to you, I charge a reduced rate for any completed working time, or nothing if it is not possible to undertake the session.
I may overrun a session slightly by a few minutes to prevent a suspended conclusion, but I will not charge for doing so. Similarly, I do not consider minor breaks (such as to use the toilet) as part of the 1 hour session, and for longer sessions I allow, and indeed encourage, having a few minutes to refresh part way through the whole session, to aid concentration.
Payment may be made in cash on the day, or by bank transfer before the next scheduled session.
